Mau P Brooklyn Concert reviews
Disappointed in show and reviews
I saw Mau P 15 years ago, and it was a fantastic show from memory. Despite being a fan, I was really disappointed in the show this time around. I used the Ticketmaster reviews extensively to see if we should go, but was surprised that other reviewers didn't call out some aspects. Know I'm an outlier.
I hate to say it, but the crowd was a real downer - old and sketchy. The show lacked a set and light show, with just guys in front of mics, which could be okay. However, with the exception of Billy Duffy, no one, including Ian A, moved much or tried to engage the audience. It was a quick set, by the numbers, with the same playlist as the other shows on the tour (per setlist.fm).
I see a lot of shows, including occasionally older bands. What I look for is energy, something new, and diverse groups in terms of age and culture - none of which was on display that night. You can tell when artists are trying hard and looking to stretch, invent, or explore, but these guys seemed to be just paying the bills. I love Mau P, but I would have been fine just listening to them on CD and saving the money to see them live at the Sands.
